Autism and potty Training
When you have a child who is on the Autism Spectrum, you have to start potty training when ever their body is ready. Potty Training can be anywhere between the ages of 2 to 8 or 9 depending on the Severity of the child's senses. Some would argue that boys are just slower but when you have Autism on top of that it can be much longer and much more of a headache for you as the parent or parents.,because of Sensory issues or sometimes it may never come in and the child is incontinent for the rest of his or her life and that is very sad. My son who is 5 just finally got an interest in potty Training and I must say that it is going very very well. he has not had one accident all day long, he even used a public restroom which is awesome. What I have been doing is just putting him into underwear and telling him that if he wants a Popsicle at the end of the day before he goes to bed then he has to stay dry all day. I never thought that Ice Cream would be such a great bribe but, let me tell you it sure is working. He has been dry all day he got a little upset when he had to go once because he thought that we would be mad at him for having an Accident. I am hoping that by the end of the summer that he will also be able to hold it at night. Right now I am just concentrating on the short term goal of staying dry during the day and then we will work on night time.
